Student Recital This year, most of the young students will be playing solo pieces, while other will play in either duet or groups. There will be catered lunch plus raffle from 11:00am to noon, recital will starts at noon until 2:00pm. Cost will be $10 for SFGMS members with a valid membership card, $12 for non members. The cost will include entrance fee, lunch and 1 raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets will be available for $1 each. The prizes include autographed SFGMS T-shirts by Liu Le, and other goodies. Tickets will be available in mid-November from Melody at info@guzheng.org. |

The Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco in association with Asian Improv aRts, API Cultural Center, Chinese Historical Society of America Museum, Chinatown Community Development Center and Chinese Progressive Association present this annual music festival. The Festival features free performances by Jest Jammin', Genryu Arts, Sherlin Chan & The Star Valley Children's Choir, Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble of San Francisco led by John Calloway, Charlie Chin, San Francisco Guzheng Society and the world-premiere of "Portrait of Sun Yat-sen" by Jon Jang and Unbound Chinatown, celebrating the October 10 Centennial of the Chinese Revolution and the Chinese Republic's first provisional president, Dr. Sun Yat-sen. 3 PM | The San Francisco Gu-zheng Music Society will host its 29th annual concert. We are very proud to present Liu Le, a young guzheng virtuoso, who will come all the way from Shanghai to perform at this concert. Mr. Liu graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music where he was under the tulelage of the famous Chinese musician Professor Wang Wei. He won the coveted "Golden Bell" Award in 2009 as well as in numerous top-level music competitions in China and abroad. He is now regarded as one of the top experts on guzheng and the most popular guzheng performer in China. Mr. Liu's guest appearance will no douobt give music lovers in the San Francisco Bay Area a better understanding of guzheng's current development in China, and to allow our Society's students an opportunity to learn new guzheng compositions. The upcoming concert will feature three brand-new compositions from 2010 – Ballad of the Enchanting Lotus, Sacrificial Offering, and Sleeve Dance Fantacies. Mr. Liu was the artist who performed in the world premiere of these new compositions; and it is only fitting that he be the one to premiere them here in North America as well.
